Guadalupe got the feeling for this painting from the indigenous people of Mexico. Chiapas is a state in the south of Mexico where the people feel they have not been recognised by their own nation.

He comments: "Sometimes, I am not sure what they are trying to do with their culture - maybe business with their colourful lifestyle. It's a poor state, but very rich in culture. As indigenous people, they have their own human rights, so why can their contribution to Mexico not be recognised, and their colours become normal at last?"
