Monday's Fashion Oil on Canvas, Rochester, 2003 102cm x 102cm
This was painted after attending a fashion show at KIAD (Kent Institute of Art and Design). It represents one of those summer days where you have to wear less clothes, and you walk outdoors smelling the air from the countryside mixed with smoke. In this composition, Guadalupe is playing with very aggressive colours. At the top is a furniture and product exhibition, and next to it is a jewellery show. The next show, in black, is a fashion show, and the blue is model making. There are four sections, architecturally interwoven, which symbolise the long journey to the world of fashion. Guadalupe describes this mainly as "a new home for every new beginner: all this together is our development in our commercial life." The eight red circles represent different dreams, small but ready to expand. The white circles are a complement for a new fresh mind, who is trying to explore the tastes of fashion.
